Scott Jackson threatened to come into town all week so I’ve been waiting with baited breath to see when and if he’d show. I got us tickets for a play on Friday. It was a play of Judy Blume’s Forever. He was entirely uninterested. (Maybe boys just don’t have the vivid memories of the impact of this book. It wasn’t just the sex aspects, even tho that was huge. It was more the endless page after page of longing and breathing and wanting. I remember usually reading this book in a group and each girl screaming, “oh! Read page 32!”) So anyways he didn’t come to town Friday so I tagged along with Ben and Gary. It turned out I had a ton of friends in the play and later ended up hanging out with the cast. I have been out of the theatre geek circle for about 12 years and it was amazing to be a group of people that hammy. It was most fervent contest for attention I’ve entered in years. Obviously it was a total blast and I’m desperate to go try out for a play and reconnect with my inner 15 year old. The star of the show was named Ricky and he is the most blue eyed dreamboat who weighs about 90 pounds and sports an exquisite Ice Castles haircut, so obviously I’m in love with him. Actually I think I’m prone to fall in love with anyone named Ricky. So Scott rolled into town (not at noon as promised) around 2ish just in time to enjoy the shittiest weather in history. So I tried vaguely to show him a good time but he was delirious from the road and the weather was so shitty and TV is just so easy to watch. I did manage to bring him to the worst brunch ever held. I’ve been to some bad brunches but this was so painfully phoned in it was embarrassing. Then he was exposed to a drunk MP. After, I took him to a neighbourhood restaurant for a normal meal, but they had changed the whole menu last week to being a 50 dollar a plate affair. Of course, they didn’t really improve the food much. And we were supposed to go to a fashion show for the White Ball after, but it was snowing and miserable and neither of us wanted to brave it. The final indignity was that we went to BoJ’s for breakfast to cash in on those cherry biscuits and they didn’t have them. (But they didn’t say the limited time was ended, they just acted like I was a nutcase. So the odyssey begins…) To sum up, I’m pretty sure Scott’ll never set foot in NC again. But also it was a blast to have him in town. (2) comments Tuesday, April 10, 2007
So the weekend in a nutshell: Snow, bee-sting, potato salad. I didn’t go to Game Day because it snowed a bunch of inches. On Easter weekend for crying out loud. This only came as a mild shock to me b/c we’ve had such a nothing winter that I was convinced we had one more snow coming. It was annoying to wear pants and a sweater on Easter, but it was fun to make fires all wknd. I brought in some logs on Saturday which must’ve brought in some bees and I sat on a hornet. It stung my thigh which blossomed nicely into the Elephant man’s thigh. So much so that my mom made me stay there so that she could monitor whether or not I lived through the night. It’s making me pretty miserable. The only upshot is that I got steroids from the doctor so I feel like Superman now. Itchy Superman. And also there was potato salad. I just got that Mika CD. This might be the fastest on the uptake I’ve been in my life (literally I bought the first Sean Paul album last month.) but I’ve been dying to find something new to listen to, and also I love plaintive lines in songs like, “Why don’t you like me?” Anyway it’s quickly becoming my favourite record until I find a new one. Firstly the only thing I like better than guys with super high voices is Freddy Mercury. And this idiot is busy doing both. ALSO! There’s this one encouraging song about fat girls and there’s a line that goes, “ A diet coke and a pizza please, a diet coke and I’m on my knees.” Now if that’s not the best line ever I don’t know what. I broke down and got the “new” Mates of State record to, but I haven’t been bothered to listen yet. So this weekend is Game Day at Dean and Flo’s. You know that thing that happens twice a year where games are played and you camp. It’s pretty much one of the funnest things that happens all year. But it’s so motherfucking cold and it’s JUST like the weather before the blizzard of ’93 and I’m real worried about getting stuck in Old Fort. And my cousin is making potato salad for Easter. So we’ll see. (3) comments Monday, April 02, 2007
You know those Hanover pretzel pieces? Well I've had them before at some point but I got them lately on a day when I shopped hungry. I got the "lightly seasoned" honey mustard and onion flavour. This was the misnomer of the century b/c in the bag were these huge chunks of flavour powder that I could delicately shave pieces off with my teeth and after you have a whole chunk of flavour you're not interested in the pretzels. So they're so delicious and addictive and I sit at my desk sucking on them until my lips are chapped from the salt. Also I found some old blog pics and put them on my flickr. (5) comments
